South Devon's coastline is truly beautiful. With family friendly beaches that have cafes and play areas situated nearby, large expanses of soft golden sands, secluded coves surrounded by dramatic rugged red cliffs and the perfect places for a rock pool adventure discovering an underwater world of fascinating critters; you'll find your dream day out. There’s even a beach accessed by an 80m tunnel which was once used by smugglers!
Many of our beaches have awards for water and beach quality, and a great swathe of the coastline is under the protection of an AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) or the National Trust. Children love nothing better than a paddle in the sea, so a clean beach with plenty of paddling opportunities is going to be right up there at the top of your holiday wish list. The beaches in South Devon are great for crabbing and there are miles of safe, award winning beaches ideal for families, or if you want more action, you can try some of the popular watersports on offer.
If you want to get out and explore the coastline take a walk along The South West Coast Path, which will guide you along the stunning panoramic sweep of coast, and also allow access to some hidden coves and beaches.
